Achilles Surgery
One of the most sensitive areas of the body is the Achilles tendon. Located at the back of the foot and leading up to the lower leg, injuries to this tendon can be extremely painful. When you need Achilles tendon repair in Chicago, Gurnee or Fox Lake, IL, you need a foot surgeon you can count on. At Chicago Foot Care Clinic, you will find a foot and ankle clinic staffed by experienced podiatrists who are ready to take on any issue you are experiencing.
The Importance of Achilles Surgery
Our foot surgeon will use Achilles surgery to restore a torn or ruptured tendon. The foot doctor will make an incision along the back of the leg, just above the heel, to provide access to the damaged tendon. They will then sew it back together. We may recommend waiting to have surgery until about a week after the injury occurs to reduce swelling and allow for best results. However, it’s important to make an appointment with a foot specialist as soon as you are injured or experience debilitating pain in this joint. We will assess the situation and make a recommendation regarding Achilles tendon repair and how long you should ideally wait to get it done.
Upon completion of Achilles surgery, you can expect to wear a cast or walking boot for about six to 12 weeks. This cast will be reapplied several times throughout the healing process. It will first be positioned with your foot pointed downward to allow the tendon to heal. It will then be gradually adjusted to bring the foot to it’s natural position. This will allow the tendon to heal properly so you can continue your daily activities with no pain and discomfort. Our foot specialist will recommend restricted motion exercises to perform after the surgery to reduce the amount of recovery and rehab time.
